How to Use this Guide: There are three major sections in this guide to support you in globalizing your classroom: 1. Study - information about resources in our school and district, as well as professional learning opportunities. 2. Teach - resources on how to globalize your teaching and build your own global competence. 3. This global education guide was created with the goal of taking what I have learned during my Teachers for Global Classrooms Fellowship and using it to connect Iowa schools globally. What is global education? Global education is teaching to ensure that students learn about the world, communicate with students and classrooms in other countries, recognize perspectives that are different from their own, and take action to improve the situations they encounter through their studies. Why is it important? Students are living in an increasingly connected world in which ideas are shared easily across borders through technology. Students need to have the cultural background and understanding necessary to communicate effectively cross-culturally. This video gives a great overview of the importance of global education:
